Happiness....an art??

The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things.
-Henry Ward Beecher-

Many of us actually forget that the statement above actually bears some truth to it. Please bear in mind I said some truth. By saying so I am agreeing that the quote is almost true if not close to the truth.

The power of extracting happiness from common things - indeed this power can only lie within oneself and it is present in every single one of us. No doubt! But conditions and circumstances play a role too. Not every condition we come upon in our life is going to enable us to extract happiness from it.

The is a saying that goes 'One man's misery is another man's pleasure.' As true as this is too when actually put into practice it makes it seem sadistic and just pure evil. What kind of world would we be living in if day in and day out if all we do if feed off from the misery of others?? What is the use of being compasinate to an insect or animal when you have lost the ability to understand and feel the suffering of another fellow human??

Let's talk about this based on a example : Let's say for instance, a friend of yours had just lost a loved one. It is a common thing in life. The cycle of birth and death. Now where is one's ability to extract happiness from that situation??!! In my opinion it is utterly ridiculous for a person to be totally happy and seek the silver lining in every situations. As long as there are situations that require us to be sad, there will be situatons that will make us feel happy. Thats the balance in life. The yin and yang of life!

The person who is able to see this balance, acknowledge the existence of this balance and live his/her life according to this balance will indeed be a 'happy' person! Because being happy is not a art, it is something that is in every one of us and will surface when when the time is right.
Happiness is the natural fountain of youth that is in every one of us. It makes us feel young, rejuvenates us and makes us US!!

Amazing Compositions Amazing Choreography

Just watching it gives me goosebumps every single time. Just makes me wonder 'If only I can move like that....'

The first video is entitled Madhura Manohara. It is a Bhajan in praise of Lord Krishna. Apart from the amazing choreography by Umesh Shetty from The Temple of Fine Arts, this song envokes this singers love and devotion for Krishna. The melodious voice of Purva Joshi and musical arrangement by Jyostna Prakash is profound. Words fail to describe the feeling you develop when you hear this composition. It is pieces like these that show how wonderful a fusion between Indian music and comtemporary music is.. truly and amazingly a Masterpiece by itself! Enjoy....

The second video is another amazing piece by The Temple of Fine Arts called Varsha.
Based on the traditional structure of the thillana, Varsha evokes the energy unleashed during a rainstorm. It also uses the mnemonic syllables of wind and rain, as in a thillana, to give it a poetic touch. The gracefulness of each dancer and their resillience is simply dumb-founding. Another superb choreography by Umesh Shetty and musical arrangement by Jyostna Prakash. Varsha......

Text For The Day

Today I'm gonna share with you guys 2 of my favourite texts from the Bhagavad Gita. Hope you guys will enjoy it.

Chapter 4 Text 7
यदा यदा ही धर्मस्य गलानिर भवति
भारत अभ्युत्थानं अधर्मस्य तदात्मानं स्र्जाम्यहम
Yadaa Yadaa Hi Dharmasya
Glaanir Bhavati Bhaarata
Abhyutthaanam Adharmasya
Tadaatmanam Srjaamyaham

Translation
: Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice (Dharma), O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise in irreligion - at that time I descend Myself.

Chapter 4 Text 8
परित्राणाय साधुनाम विनाशाय दुस्क्र्ताम
धर्मासम्स्तापनार्थाया संभवामि युगे युगे
Paritranaaya Saadhunaam
Vinashaya Cha Dushkrtaam

Dharma Samsthaapanarthaaya
Sambhavami Yuge Yuge

Translation
: To deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I Myself appear, millennium after millennium.

For those people who enjoy listening to music scores from films, these two texts are sung in the score of the 'Bulletproof Monk' (towards the ending of the movie if I am not mistaken). When I was thought the Bhagavad Gita, for some reason, these two stanzas were always at the tip of my tongue and in my head. Maybe it was the way it sounded, the pronunciation or the tongue-twisting words in it. But as time went by the meaning somehow got to me rather than all the fore mentioned.

The belief of The Supreme Godhead mentioned in Hinduism is ever so clearly summarised in these 2 texts. He will come to your aid if you are in the right path - the righteouss path(Dharma). God is here, God is there, God is everywhere. Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Omniprescence. So what if today didn't go well?? Thanks to Him, you have another day to live, to love, to serve!

A State of Confusion - In Utter Mess

Well I guess it's safe to say m confused...or I should say 'conspewed' (inside joke). Trying to understand people and decipher their codes is just too confusing and tiring. So my conclusion is - If you are gonna be vague with me, I shall be vague with you! If you are gonna be 'civil' with me, then 'civil' I shall be too. And last but not least, if you are gonna use me for our own benefits, then FULLSTOP!
I have wasted enough time trying to make everything and anything work because I don't want to lose some people. But apparently they don't mind losing me! WTF!!! I'm not some 'thing' that you remember exist only when time suits you or when you need something! I'm human just like you and I thought we were friends! Guess the circumstances under which we met was the real reason afterall!
Great! Now I'm pissed!! Anyways that's like 10% of the load of m
y chest! Expect more in days to come! Cya guys!!

The Lesson At The End Of The Day

Today I started my new clinical posting - Orthopedics. The whole of this week will be spent on campus with clinical classes comprising of examination methods and proper history taking. Although this seems like a very chilled-out posting, it is slowly but surely beginning to dawn on me that I'm just months away from my competency examination and I'm not prepared for it at all. As scary as that thought is, I have to spin it around and make that thought motivate me to start studying. I cannot afford to fail. =(

That all aside. Today one of my fav series aired its season finale - Grey's Anatomy. Without giving much away I just wanna say its one of those episodes that actually made me tear. Heart touching episode... It made me realise one thing in life... We have learnt to take things for granted. We are no longer grateful for all the amazing people and things that we have in our lives. Because tomorrow they just might not be there anymore and sitting down being all depressed then is not gonna make much of a difference.

So to everyone in my life...Thank you! Thank you for everything you have done for me,to me and with me! I could not have become the person that I am today if it was not for u people...
To all my family members - I love you guys, will keep in loving u guys till the day I breathe my last!
To my friends - You guys mean so much to me! Words cannot express me feelings and gratitude!

I love all of you guys till death!! =)

When Swift Meets Coldplay

This amazing instrumental fusion of these 2 songs by John Schmidt is simply fantastic! Words fail to convey how I feel when I hear the fusion time after time! Somehow the emotions of the song is more clearly conveyed when it is an instrumental piece compared to the original songs! The cello player - hats off to him. Amazing composition. Hear it and see the video! Enjoy guys!!

A Saturday with Hoegarrden

Not going to Jonker's on a Saturday night is kinda rare if I'm in Malacca and not back home. We are either there for the laksa and cendol or for drinks...sometimes even both. =D Tonight we decided to have Hoegaarden (see attached pics). So we sat ourselves at Geographer's Cafe and ordered each of us a bottle each. I like the taste of it because its smooth and doesn't have a lot of gas in it. It's a kinda like a way to treat yourself once in a while considering that one bottle costs RM18.60. The music at Geographer's is kinda okay and entertaining. It's kinda amusing to see the 2 cafes (Geographer's and Ringo's from across the street) take turns to allow their singers to sing. It's relaxing and great to be able to just sit down and talk amongst friends while having a drink on a Saturday night. Just felt it would have been better had the weather been slightly nicer. Lol!! Anyways although it is a quiet Saturday night, that's what this whole week is about. Unwinding and relaxing before Ortho starts on Monday! One more day to relax..Yay to that!! =) Night People!!!! Sweet Dreams!

P.S. For more info on Hoegaarden Beer, check out this website : http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/83/248/

2 Months Gone!!....

Yesterday was my Community Medicine end of posting examination... How did it go? I guess it could have go a lot better but the blame is on me. In adequate preparation and lack of concentration...Lol!! Typical me right? yeah I know! Anyways what's done cannot be undone! So for now look forward to the future and learn from my past mistakes!! Orthopedics here I come!! =P

Boring Medical Ethics Class!!

This didnt happen today but if I'm not mistaken it was last Tuesday! As usual every Tuesdays is lecture day. So 8am - Community Medicine, 9am - Internal Medicine. Then we receive word that the O&G lecture which was suppose to be at 1030am has been postponed to 1pm!! On top of that there is also Medical Ethics class at 4pm!! This means that the day will only end at 5pm! Arrgghh!!! Annoying!! Anyways somehow or rather we manage to pull through the O&G and Orthopedics lecture...Now...Medical Ethics... uhhh!!!
Suddenly rows of students just rush out of the class..running away while they still can from medical ethics...The remaining of us impatiently wait for the 'lecturer' to come. She finally makes it to class 10 minutes late and then proceeds to talk about how she prepared the slides and how she was unhappy about the turn up for her class for another 10 minutes. Topic for the day was Cloning and Stem Cell Research! A topic that has been spoken many a times and is no alien to a medical student. What did I do during this boring total-waste-of-my-time class.......hehehe...see attached pictures...
